The Miss Rubber World 2012 competition topped off the New York Rubber Ball, a social event, where rubberists from around the world get together and socialize, dance, play, show off, and shop. New York, New York – International fetish model Kylie Marilyn was crowned Miss Rubber World 2012 on Saturday night in front of an electrifying crowd of rubber worshipers. The event was part of New York Rubber Ball, presented by FetishMovies.com.

“For the first time, this award goes across the ocean and I’m proud to represent it in Europe,” said Marilyn. “Thank you so much to Brigitte More for an awesome dress. That was a huge factor in our win. Thank you so much to Chiyo Nakamura and all the awesome latex designers and labels who helped us. I hope to bring many kinksters and fetishists to New York next year for an even better show.”

Marilyn’s duties as Miss Rubber World 2012 will be to promote the rubber fetish community, and act as a representative of the community at events. With the title, tiara and sash, comes over $15,000 worth of rubber merchandise and accessories from sponsors such as The Baroness, Kink Engineering, Lady Oops, Dawnamatrix Designs, Lovely Latex, Anatomic Bomb and FetishMovies.com

Marilyn’s victory was not easily won. Competing with her for the title were nine excellent rivals, including designers, models, and Dominatrixes. Most, like Marilyn, had extensive connections in the fetish community and had elaborate stage shows for the fantasy performance competition. Lydia Lael, first runner up in the competition, won over $4,000 in prizes, and third place winner Sophia Larou took home over $2,000 in latex swag.

“Shae Fatale definitely deserved to win,” said contestant Queen Titania. “She had the coolest, most creative outfits. Although Austin White kind of deserved to win for walking around in ballet boots like it was nothing. Regardless, I had a lot of fun last night and met some very cool people.”

One of Marylin’s first duties as Miss Rubber World 2012 will be to represent the title and the rubber community at Fetish Evolution Weekend, April 6-8, in Germany.

However, as publicists, we’re much more than press releases. New York Rubber Ball and Miss Rubber World 2012 not only lined up a new set of challenges, but a new set of opportunities. We began by pitching interviews with Archean, who is Miss Rubber World 2011. Those ran on Lukeisback.com and Tonybatman.com last year. Xbiz is still interested in interviewing her soon for their May fetish issue.

Then came the contestant interviews. It was a little hard to push in the beginning. Some of the vanilla adult press are skeptical. Some contestants haven’t gotten back to us, and a couple of contestants have dropped out. Thankfully we’ve found some contestants that are really involved in the adult industry, so they’ve been responsive and a great fit.

We’ve placed three contestant interviews, bundling several into group interviews, giving the appearance of a live and interactive experience. Here’s where they’ve placed.

We’re in negotiations to stay on for the 2013 event. The strategy at that point will be to focus on the new Miss Rubber World winner, 2013 contestants, but also get more exposure for the sponsors.

Saturday night, after a tour of New York City’s best fetish shops, comes the crown jewel of the weekend, the Miss Rubber World 2012 competition, with Mistress of Ceremonies, The Baroness. Saturday’s event festivities include fashion shows presented by The Baroness, Latex Nemesis, Klawtex, Dawnamatrix, Vital Vein, and Lovely Latex. Recent sponsors Extreme Restraints, Pandora Deluxe, Fettiso, Passional Toys, and The Latex Store, have brought the prize pool to over $14,700 in latex clothing and accessories. Special guests for the night include Jade Vixen and Jean Bardot, who will be judging contestants of the pageant.

Ten rubber elite from around the globe are running for the title of Miss Rubber World 2012. The pageant features models Kylie Marilyn and Lottie Kixx, rubber Dominatrixes such as Queen Titania, and Sophia Laurou, and designers like Lydia Lael, Ms. Shae Fatale, and Sarula. Adult performer Kendra James recently announced she is dropping out of the competition, but stated intentions to make it to the event as a guest. Taking James’ place as contender will be Mistress Layla of Pandora’s Box.

Sunday night, latex lovers will say their goodbyes and get in some wicked delights as New York Rubber Ball wraps up with the Suspension party, hosted by NYC Fetish Tribe.

A long time ago I was working in the art department of AVN, and we would get in a press release for a business. My job would be to find art for the story, either through our archives or by contacting the business that sent the release.

Sometimes, I got lucky, but the more corporate the place, the less likely I could even get through to a marketing or publicity person. Even then, I’d often get the same response “I’m the publicist, I don’t handle artwork.”

Now remember, this is the adult industry, which is almost entirely dependent on imagery. Even if the company does credit card processing or writes software, the least they could do is send a logo, or a photo of the person quoted in the press release.

Whether I could get art to run with a story, or not, made the difference between a story getting placed, or a story getting trashed. Let that sentence sink in a bit . . . .

The advertising dollars didn’t count, the drinks with the managing editor a month ago didn’t count, sharing a rail of coke with one of the writers didn’t count. If there was no art, the story got cut.

Most publicists don’t handle art themselves. It’s not what they do. Most publicists I’ve met come from writing backgrounds. In fact, I know about a dozen I met when they were journalists. Sure, they’ll pick photos, bug the art department for graphics, and some may even be able to crop a picture.

Fast forward to today. For our client, Sun Island Studio. We put together a sales kit, with the logo we designed for the company. We got asked to help with redesigning box covers. The Brazilian Girlz graphic is a good example of what we get asked to whip up on occasion to help push product.

Sun Island Studio isn’t an isolated case. When Michael Ninn was developing The Four, we created images to go with the “Kronos 480 BC” alternative reality game promoting his movie. For Platinum Blue, I got asked to put together press kits and media kits. We work very closely with cover artists and designers. Most of the graphics for the social networking campaigns of various companies Black and Blue Media has worked with, I put the graphics together. For SLLAB, I was called on to design full page ads and worked closely with artists for the cover and poster art of The New Neighbors. When we hooked up with Tony Batman of A! Entertainment, we not only designed his logo, but produced graphics for shows and even edited the Platinum Blue and Ninn Worx commercials that aired on his show.

So, when you’re looking at a publicity agency, are you looking at someone who’s just a writer, or are you looking at a place that can handle just about everything? The choice isn’t really hard, when you think about it.

James brings with her quite an impressive resume from the adult industry. The red headed latex bombshell runs KendraJames.com. James also has mainstream credits having toured with Ozzy Osbourne as a stage performer and has appeared on MTV’s “The Osbournes.”.

In addition to James a mysterious contestant named Cunnelingo has stepped forward from Los Angeles to compete for the title. Little is known at present about Cunnelingo, except for a titillating profile on Fetlife, the fetish-friendly social network.

“Representing West Coast in the Miss Rubber World contest is truly an honor,” said Cunnelingo. “This will be my first time in New York and I can’t think of a better way to pop my rubber cherry!”

While the contestant roster for Miss Rubber World 2012 is now complete, additional applications are still being accepted to fill in as alternates if any of the current competitors drop out.

As of Monday, January 30, 2012, the value of the prize pool has surpassed $13,000, with the winning contestant to receive over seven thousand dollars worth of fetish oriented prizes.

“We’re really excited that the contestant slots are filling up so fast, as it bodes well for the overall turnout for the Ball,” said Dana, the event producer. “Miss Rubber World is an open competition, no auditions required, with the slots going on a first come first served basis. Once all ten slots are filled, additional entry forms will be held as alternates in case of cancellations, in the order in which they are received. There’s many angles we’ve been pushing. With Cindi Loftus, it was introducing Archean, the event, and awaking her kink curious readers. With Tony Batman, the focus was on Archean as talent, touching on her modeling and design work with Kink Engineering, and her involvement with Miss Rubber World.

The next objectives with Archean are on the subject of adult business. Given she’s one of the biggest and best distributors of sheet latex in North America, that shouldn’t be too hard. With these interviews, we can also mention the Miss Rubber World competition and pick up a couple more sponsors.
